Electrolesk A Guide to Practical Electrical Installation Work.
BackgroundWiring of Industrial Socket outlet points are being used in Industrial Electrical Installation Work. Here we are considering wiring a 16A,32A and 63A Socket Outlet points for 50Hz, 230V [1P]/400V [3P] AC Power Supply. Installation work described here is according to British Standards. [IEE Regulations and Practice ]. |
Material RequirementCable Sizes of 2.5 mm2 for 16A ,6.0 mm2 for 32A, 16mm2 for 63A double insulated Cu [Copper] Cables [Cu/PVC/PVC] are used for the Phase [Live ] ,the Neutral and Earth [Cu/PVC ,Single Insulated] cables of Industrial Socket Outlet Wirings of above Ampere rated Single Phase and 3 Phase designs. Cable lengths for the above circuits will be such that voltage drop along the cables will be with in the approved limits of 10% of Supply Voltage.

Accessory RequirementIndustrial socket outlets and Plugs 16A,32A,63A, Rated for 2Pole[L,N] and Earth [3 pin] 16A,32A,63A, Rated for 3Pole[L1,L2,L3 ]and Earth [4 pin] 16A,32A,63A, Rated for 3Pole[L1,L2,L3] , N and Earth [5 pin]
Power to the Industrial Socket Outlets according to its rating through 2 Pole [1 Ph]/3 Pole or 4 Pole [3 Ph] MCB units from a Distribution Board
|
PreparationInstall the industrial socket outlet unit at the required position. Lay PVC conduit from the Distribution Board to the receptacle position. The conduits can be embedded into the wall structure and or lay outside, clipped to the wall or structure. Instead of PVC conduits and switch boxes, GI conduits and switch boxes are being used for Industrial type of installations where you need protection for cables from physical damage. In some wooden structured buildings, the cables are installed inside panels without conduits being used. The Cables should be colour coded correctly for Phases[L1,L2,L3],Neutral and Earth.

Method of Wiring -ResidentialMake sure that the Power is isolated [ shut down] to the Distribution board or any circuit you will be working with. For 2 Pin [Single Phase] Industrial Socket Outlets Connect the Phase [L] wire to the outgoing side of a MCB from the Distribution Board [DB]. Draw the Phase wire to the socket outlet box and connect to terminal marked as L [Line] of the Industrial Socket Outlet. Connect the Neutral [N] wire to the Neutral Link provided in the DB and draw the wire to the Industrial Socket Outlet and connect to the terminal marked as N [Neutral]. Connect the Earth [E] wire to the Earth link provided in the Distribution Board. Draw Earth wire to the Industrial Socket Outlet and connect to the terminal marked as E [Earth].
For 4 Pin [Three Phase] Industrial Socket Outlets Connect the Phase [L1,L2,L3] wires to the outgoing side of the 3 Pole MCB from the Distribution Board [DB]. Draw the Phase wire to the socket outlet box and connect to terminal marked as L1,L2,L3 of the Industrial Socket Outlet. Connect the Earth [E] wire to the Earth link provided in the Distribution Board. Draw Earth wire to the Industrial Socket Outlet and connect to the terminal marked as E [Earth].
For 5Pin [Three Phase] Industrial Socket Outlets Connect the Phase [L1,L2,L3] wires to the outgoing side of the 4 Pole MCB from the Distribution Board [DB]. Draw the Phase wire to the socket outlet box and connect to terminal marked as L1,L2,L3 of the Industrial Socket Outlet. Connect the Neutral [N] wire to the Neutral of the 4 Pole MCB in the DB and draw the wire to the Industrial Socket Outlet and connect to the terminal marked as N [Neutral]. Connect the Earth [E] wire to the Earth link provided in the Distribution Board. Draw Earth wire to the Industrial Socket Outlet and connect to the terminal marked as E [Earth].
It is good practice to number the Phase and the Neutral wires at the DB for easy identification as one circuit.
